COURSE OBJECTIVE

This course gives the trainees the necessary thermodynamic background, allowing for an excellent and complete understanding of oil and gas processing aspects.

 

PREREQUISITES

Chemistry of hydrocarbons and IUPAC nomenclature system (else the course will be adapted)

 

PARTICIPANTS WILL

Learn the detailed composition of a wellhead stream

Learn how to properly characterize well effluents

Acquire an excellent understanding of liquid - vapor equilibria of hydrocarbon systems

Know how to classify hydrocarbons reservoirs

Gain a thermodynamic understanding of oil and gas processing aspects and specifications

Understand principles of thermodynamic modelling, learn mostly used equations of state and coeffcient activity models

Perform flash calculations

OBSERVATIONS

If time permitting, applications are suggested at the end of each chapter with the aim to enhance the theoretical aspects understanding. Else, participants will go through a 5- minutes quiz.  

WELL EFFLUENT COMPOSITION AND CHARACTERIZATION           

-          Detailed composition of a well head stream, PVT report          

-          Hydrocarbon Types and Properties, oil cuts and pseudo components      

-          Well head stream characterization, well test installation, sampling,  GOR, BSW, water cut

-          Formation Volume Factor

Application: Calculation of the Formation Volume Factor in case of gas reservoir, oil reservoir

 

LIQUID VAPOR EQUILIBRIUM OF PURE COMPONENTS 

- Vaporization and condensation of a pure component experiment

- The vapor pressure and vapor pressure curves

- The critical point and critical coordinates

- Overall phase diagram and enthalpy diagram 

 

LIQUID VAPOR EQUILIBRIUM OF HYDROCARBONS MIXTURES

- Vaporization and condensation of binary mixtures experiment

- Phase Envelop of binary mixtures (cricondenbar, cricondentherm and critical point)

- Influence of composition on phase envelop shape

- Vapor Liquid Equilibrium of multicomponent mixtures

- Phase envelops of well effluents (dry gas, condensate gas, light oil and heavy oil)

 

HYDROCARBON RESERVOIRS CLASSIFICATION

- Well effluent behavior from “ pay zone” to surface processing

- Phase Envelops of  wet gas, black oil, gas condensate and volatile oil

- Gas Reservoir and Retrograde Phenomena, Oil reservoirs

-      Oil and Gas behavior between the reservoir and the surface

 

IDEAL GAS AND REAL FLUID BEHAVIOR
